How the tool works
It uses risk signals, not a cosmetic score.
The questions prioritize fixed coat, pain, wounds, contamination, movement changes, breathing, elimination, and systemic decline. A higher result means the next step should involve more support—not that the guardian has failed.
The score is deliberately conservative. A result may move toward veterinary care when a symptom could make ordinary grooming unsafe, even when grooming will later be part of the solution.
Use the result well
Bring observations, not a self-diagnosis.
Record where the problem is located, when it changed, whether the cat is eating and eliminating normally, what positions are difficult, what home care has been attempted, and whether touching the area produces pain or escalation. Photos can help describe coat and claw findings before arrival.
Why the route may change
Direct assessment can reveal a different level of care.
Coat can look mild at the surface while being fixed near the skin. A severe-looking area may release more easily than expected. Medication effect, mobility, skin condition, breathing, and the cat’s response to handling can also change the safest plan in real time.
